Researches display effectiveness of inhaled corticosteroids

Inhaled corticosteroids are ordinarily prescribed to cure persons with early stages of asthma complications.
According to several recent researches, one can increase the standard does of inhaled steroids by eight times, but benefits will be not increased under such circumstance. Ejaz Yousef, a specialist that has been involved in these studies, notices that if a health care provider observes that medical position of a person becomes worse, he/she may recommend using oral steroids instead of enhancing the dose of inhaled corticosteroids. Enhancing the quantity of inhaled steroids is not without any negative effect. This factor causes various negative reactions. Application of inhaled steroids was claimed to be alternative therapy to taking oral drugs. It was in 1997. It was advised to indicate inhaled corticosteroids as alternatives of oral drugs which are useful in case of asthma exacerbations.
Later, certain studies have shown that administration of increased quantities of inhaled corticosteroids regularly doesn’t enhance positive effects.
Yousef and his colleagues have conducted a research that involved almost 200 children of 2-17 years. These children were treated with inhaled steroids during 3 months. They were chosen randomly for therapies for a period of 12 days. Any child that had asthma complications was given inhaled corticosteroids. Then the results were evaluated by the scientists.
No any child who smoked, had symptoms of chronic asthma or lung pathology was involved in the study.
Patients had to inform about their unwanted effects per telephone within 72 hours.  Thus, it was reported about cough during nighttime, wheeze, shortness of breath and intolerance  for exercises. Each symptom was evaluated according to a score which was ranged from 0 to 4. 0 meant no any effect; 4 meant the most increased severity level.
Only 4 kids out of 82 the kids that were given enhanced measures of inhaled corticosteroids had to apply systemic corticosteroids. 2 of them were given doubled quantities; others 2 were applying the dosage which was more enhanced by 8 times than a typical one.
According to the results of the research, effectiveness of the medications, placebo effect, supervision of health care providers and treatment of individuals during early stages of asthma complications were responsible for obtaining good results.
This as well as other studies show that not every story about steroids is connected with abuse and administration of them by sportspeople. Steroids are effective for many medical needs.
