The National Football League is not permitted to reveal details, when players fail drug tests. It is only reported that certain individuals have violated anti-doping program. But the League must not reveal which substances have been applied by these sportspersons. So, several football players cheat about drugs that have led to positives.
Why do several football players choose to lie about drugs which have been used by them? Let try to understand.
A lot of football players who fail drug tests claim that they have taken Adderall. In fact, they have administered anabolic steroids. Why do they say that they have tested positive for Adderall? What does Adderall represent? This is a medication that is used for treatment of attention-deficit disorder. But this medication is applied not just for this therapeutic purpose. Athletes and bodybuilders apply this medicine for performance-enhancing effects.
As for steroids, they are widely blamed. Many reporters, experts, anti-doping officers and ordinary persons affirm that these medicines are very dangerous. They may lead to various serious undesirable reactions. Anabolic steroids are demonized even for several crimes. But as for Adderall, this product is not demonized in the society. Thus, many football players try to prevent criticism. They don’t want to be blamed for intake of such forbidden medicines, as steroids. Since users of Adderall are not criticized harshly, football players affirm that they have failed drug tests because they have taken Adderall.
A football player compared this situation with following cases: those who are arrested with cocaine tell others that they have administered marijuana because cocaine is more harshly blamed than the last one.
You should not suggest that each football player that says that he has tested positive for Adderall has really used steroids. But it is possible to conclude that those that use Adderall are less blamed than those that take anabolic steroids.
