Sale and application of steroids without a health care provider’s prescription are considered to be illicit in India. But illegal distribution and usage of steroids and other related products prosper in this state. A lot of sportspersons get these products at pharmacies and supplement stores and apply them in order to increase muscles and performance.
When Indian National Team’s athletes tested positive for banned medicines at the 2012 London Olympics, attention of authorities was drawn to drug stores and supplement stores. Local police officers decided to raid pharmacies and supplement stores regularly in order to control illegal sale of anabolic steroids and other related drugs. After several raids certain drug stores and supplement stores had been shut down.
Recently police officers raided a pharmacy and two supplement stores located in the southern part of India.
The Parola Pharmacy located in Valancherry was searched by law enforcement officers. As it was learnt, steroids and other related drugs were sold at this pharmacy illegally. Nandrolone phenylpropionate was one of steroids which were named by law enforcement officers. Several other steroids were sold illicitly too. Thus, this pharmacy was shut down.
The Health World supplement store located in Kottakkal was also recently raided. Police officers saw that Methandienone, Equipose, Testosterone Undecanoate and some other steroids were offered for sale at this supplement store. Thus, it was shut down too.
Another supplement store which was raided was the AM Nutrition store. But it was not prosecuted because no any steroids were sold at the store.
Police officers plan to continue raids. Some pharmacies and supplement stores may lose their licenses for illegal sale of steroids and other related products.
