Don Hooton: it is difficult to convince young people that steroids are unsafe

Several remedies are named “performance-enhancing drugs”. What do these medicines represent? Why have been they called “performance-enhancing”? Various individuals may have different definitions. Let see what an adolescent says! Before presenting her opinion it is necessary to mention that her brother, Taylor Hooton, had serious depression after intake of steroids. Finally, he committed suicide. He wanted to look like Melky Cabrera, Barry Bonds and other celebrated athletes that have taken steroids. But his life ended suddenly. His sister claims that performance-enhancing drugs are dangerous preparations. They are named “performance-enhancing drugs” in order to lure young individuals that want to improve their appearances and performances.
Don Hooton, Taylor’s father, established a foundation to teach youth about dangers related to steroids. He describes which risks are associated with application of anabolic steroids and other related medicines. He also utilizes slideshow presentations in order to explain that these drugs may lead to such side effects, as diabetes, heart diseases, liver dysfunctions, etc.
Don Hooton tries to educate young individuals about dangerous risks related to usage of steroids. But he realizes that it is difficult. He confirms that many young persons take doping products. When their friends see that they become stronger and more muscular, they want to be like them. They follow their examples in order to improve appearance and have more strength.
Unfortunately, some parents believe that their children are free from steroid use. Some of them think that their daughters don’t apply steroids because these products are indicated to gain muscles and body weight in general. But according to certain sources, girls also administer steroids. They take these medications in order to lose fat. Some parents don’t know that anabolic steroids are also taken to lower fat deposits. That’s why grown-ups also should be taught about effects of steroids. Moreover, some parents believe that their children don’t use steroids because these preparations are expensive. But it is enough to have 20-500 dollars in order to buy steroids for a cycle.
It is considered that every16th high school student uses steroids. But this point of view is mistaken. Every 16th high school student admits to taking performance-enhancing drugs.   But the most of young people hide that they apply these medicines.
