Belarusian shot putter was stripped of her gold medal for intake of metenolone

The Belarusian shot putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk won the gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games. But the female athlete forfeited the award because she was caught using the anabolic steroid metenolone (methenolone). She was asked to provide two samples. The substance metenolone was found in both urine samples.
If you read steroid scandals, you must know that professional athletes and bodybuilders are usually caught applying other steroids and/or doping products. But as for Nadzeya Ostapchuk, she was caught taking metenolone. It is unusual, according to statements of anti-doping officers. What does this banned drug represent? Why don’t sportspersons usually administer this medication for enhancement of performance?
Metenolone is an anabolic steroid. It possesses slight androgenic features. It acts like testosterone, enhancing muscle mass and adding strength.
Although this preparation possesses only weak androgenic nature, it causes development of sex male features in women. Females that administer this drug may face typical effects of virilization: the voice deepens; excessive hair grows on the face and on other parts of the body; etc.
This medicine may be administered orally or injectionally.
Metenolone (Methenolone) benefits greatly, when it is administered by athletes during their trainings. It is not used during competitions. It doesn’t work, if it is taken just on the day of a competition.
It is also affirmed that it is easy to catch those that apply this steroid.
Unwanted reactions of Metenolone (Methenolone) depend on doses which are takne. They include water retention, elevated calcium level in the blood, bone growth, hirsutism, acne, male-pattern baldness, menstrual abnormalities, increased sex drive, etc.
Thus, if you see a female athlete who has deep voice and excessive hair growth on the body, you may suspect her of steroid use. Actually, it is wrong because these troubles may appear also in those women that don’t administer any steroids. But sometimes these signs manifest that certain women take drugs which possess androgenic features.
